Spokenly costs nothing if its local models are enough for you. Pro, which adds Spokenly's own cloud models and AI cleanup, is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, and Local+ is a one-time $29 for a few extras. That's Spokenly's pricing in short, as of October 2026.
The details matter more than usual, because Spokenly's free tier is unusually generous and its two paid plans do different jobs. Below is every plan, what "free" really covers, the discounts and refund terms, and what Spokenly costs over three years next to LumeVoice, Wispr Flow, Superwhisper and Voicy. A disclosure first: LumeVoice is our product. We haven't used Spokenly ourselves, so everything here comes from Spokenly's pricing page, docs, policies and store listings, checked on October 20, 2026.

Prices as of October 2026, from Spokenly's pricing, team and student pages.
A few things the table doesn't show:
- The pricing page opens on yearly billing, showing Pro as $8.33 a month billed $99.99 a year, with a "2 months free" label. Switch to monthly and it's $9.99.
- Pro works across Spokenly's apps on Mac, Windows, Linux and iOS, but how it unlocks depends on where you bought it. Website purchases activate when you sign in with your email; App Store purchases may need Restore Purchases, and Spokenly says they don't automatically link to the apps that use email sign-in (sync subscription).
- Website payments go through Polar or Paddle, which act as merchant of record and handle invoices and sales tax (terms).
Is Spokenly free?#
Yes, really. Spokenly's pricing FAQ says its on-device Whisper and Parakeet models are free forever, with no word caps, no trial clock and no credit card, and the Free plan needs no account. Few dictation apps give away unlimited use; Spokenly can because the transcription happens on your own hardware.
Free has limits of a different kind:
- Your hardware sets the pace. Spokenly says the local models available, and how fast they run, depend on your platform and hardware. Replying to an App Store review in February 2026, its developer said local models can struggle on older iPhones inside the keyboard, and recommended online models there (App Store listing).
- Cleanup isn't automatic. On the Free plan, AI cleanup comes from Apple Intelligence on Apple devices or from an AI provider you connect with your own key. Spokenly's newer Local Model Cleanup runs on your computer, but it's off by default and works best in English (Local Model Cleanup).
- Pick a local model first. Spokenly's own summary says it uses cloud models by default, and you choose and download a local model before you can dictate offline (Spokenly's summary).
- Spokenly's cloud models need Pro. Without Pro, cloud transcription means bringing your own API keys.
Your own API keys: free software, separate bills#
Spokenly lets you connect keys from providers such as OpenAI, Deepgram, Groq, ElevenLabs and Mistral, and charges nothing on top (pricing FAQ). That's a good deal if you already pay one of those providers or dictate in short bursts. The catch is that the cost moves with your usage and lands on someone else's invoice, so check the provider's rates against how much you talk. There's a privacy difference too: with your own key, audio goes straight from your device to that provider and doesn't pass through Spokenly's servers (privacy policy).
Local+ vs Pro: which paid plan?#

From the plan comparison on Spokenly's pricing page, as of October 2026.
Local+ is for people who are happy with local models and want the polish: the extra recording styles, sync between devices and faster support. Spokenly says it works in the Mac app from its website and in the Windows and Linux apps, that it's coming to the iPhone app in a new version, and that the Mac App Store version will get it later.
Pro is for people who want cloud accuracy without managing keys. Spokenly names GPT-4o Transcribe, Deepgram Nova 3 and Soniox among its premium models, plus hosted AI text processing.
Monthly vs yearly, and the App Store prices#
Paying monthly costs $9.99 × 12 = $119.88 a year. The yearly plan is $99.99, a saving of $19.89, close to the "2 months free" Spokenly advertises. Ten monthly payments come to $99.90, just under a year's price, so the yearly plan only pays off if you'll keep Pro for 11 months or more.
The iPhone app sells Pro through Apple. The US App Store lists Pro Monthly at $9.99 and $10.99 and a Pro 6-Month Plan at $49.99 and $54.99, without saying which price applies when. Two 6-month payments at $49.99 come to $99.98, about the same as the website's yearly plan. Because App Store purchases follow Apple's refund rules and don't link to Spokenly's email sign-in by themselves, buying on the website is simpler if you use Spokenly beyond Apple devices.
Comparing Prices? Compare the Cleanup Too
LumeVoice turns your speech into clean text in whatever app you're using, on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android.
- Cleanup by default: filler words and stutters removed, self-corrections applied, spoken lists turned into lists. No models or keys to set up.
- 100 languages, detected automatically.
- Pricing: $14.99/mo, $79.99/year or $249 once, with 50% off for students and 50% off for accessibility.
- The tradeoff: it's cloud-only and needs an internet connection; there's no Linux app or browser extension.
Every new account starts with 3,000 free words, no card required.
Discounts: students and teams#
- Students: 50% off Pro, so $4.99 a month or $49.99 a year. Sign in to Spokenly with your university email (.edu, .ac.uk and similar), then email admin@spokenly.app from that address with a photo of your student ID. Spokenly says it verifies and applies the discount within 24 hours (student discount).
- Teams: 30% off every seat, for good. The minimum is two seats, and each member gets full Pro on their own devices: $6.99 per seat a month or $69.99 per seat a year. You buy seats in one checkout, then invite teammates by email and download invoices from the Polar customer portal (team plan).
- No disability discount is listed on Spokenly's site.
For comparison, LumeVoice gives students and teachers 50% off (email hello@lumevoice.com from a school address) and gives 50% off to anyone who finds typing hard because of a disability, injury or health condition, with no proof needed. With the accessibility code, LumeVoice Pro is $7.49 a month or $39.99 a year. See student pricing and the accessibility discount. LumeVoice doesn't sell a team plan.
Refunds and cancelling#
- Website purchases come with a 14-day money-back guarantee: email admin@spokenly.app within 14 days and Spokenly refunds you in full (refund policy). Its pricing FAQ adds that you can contact it even if you've missed the window.
- App Store purchases are refunded by Apple through its standard process.
- Cancelling: website subscriptions are managed from the billing link in your purchase email, App Store subscriptions from your Apple account. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've paid for (upgrade guide).

Spokenly prices as of October 2026. Provider bills for your own API keys aren't included.
Over three years, Spokenly is either free or roughly $300 for Pro on yearly billing. The $29 Local+ license is by far the cheapest paid option, but it doesn't include Spokenly's cloud models, so it isn't a cheaper route to Pro.
How Spokenly's price compares#
| App | Free option | Monthly | Yearly | One-time | 3 years, yearly billing |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Spokenly | Unlimited local models | $9.99 | $99.99 | $29 Local+ (no cloud) | $299.97 |

Prices as of October 2026, from each vendor's pricing page: Wispr Flow, Superwhisper, Voicy.
Spokenly's free tier is the standout. Of the apps in this table, only Spokenly and Superwhisper let you dictate without limits for free, both with local models. Superwhisper's free plan allows two modes without AI processing; Spokenly's lets you add cloud models and AI with your own keys.
On paid plans, Spokenly Pro sits in the middle: it costs more than Superwhisper or Voicy and less than Wispr Flow. Next to LumeVoice it's cheaper month to month ($9.99 against $14.99), and on yearly billing it's $99.99 against $79.99/year. If you'd rather pay once for cloud dictation, Spokenly has nothing to offer; Superwhisper and Voicy sell lifetime licenses, as does LumeVoice ($249).
Is Spokenly worth paying for?#
Pay for Spokenly if you:
- want cloud accuracy on Mac, Windows, Linux and iPhone without managing API keys (Pro)
- use the free tier every day and want sync between devices or the extra recording styles (Local+, $29 once)
- are a student: Pro is $49.99 a year
- are buying for a team of two or more and like a 30% seat discount that doesn't expire
Stay on the free tier if you:
- are happy with local models on a recent computer
- already pay an AI provider and can use your own keys
Look elsewhere if you:
- need an Android app: Spokenly has a waitlist, not an app (Spokenly for Android)
- want cleanup that's on by default rather than set up through modes
- want to pay once for cloud dictation
- need a disability discount

The bottom line#
Spokenly's pricing is generous where it counts: unlimited local dictation costs nothing, and your own API keys cost nothing extra. Local+ at $29 once is a fair price for sync and polish, and Pro at $99.99 a year is mid-market for managed cloud dictation. Buy Pro on the website if you use anything besides Apple devices, since activation is simplest there, and use the 14-day refund window to decide whether the cloud models are worth it to you.
