Choosing a dictation app comes down to a handful of questions. Which devices do you use? Does your audio have to stay on your computer? Do you want a subscription, or to pay once? And how much cleanup do you want: raw words, or finished text with the "ums" and false starts taken out?

The pages below put LumeVoice next to the apps people most often compare it with. Each one starts with a short verdict, then gets into prices, platforms, privacy and the trade-offs.

How we compare#

We make LumeVoice, so take our word with that in mind. We try to earn your trust in three ways:

  • Facts from the source. Prices, plans and platforms come from each company's own website and help pages, and every price carries a date.
  • Their strengths, said out loud. If another app runs offline, supports Linux, or has a feature we don't, we say so near the top.
  • No invented numbers. We don't publish accuracy scores or user counts we can't back up.

What to check before you choose#

QuestionWhy it matters
Does it run on all your devices? Some apps are Mac-only or have no Android app. LumeVoice runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android.
Cloud or local?Local apps keep audio on your machine and work offline. Cloud apps such as LumeVoice need a connection; ours doesn't store your audio after processing or train on it.
How much cleanup?Plain dictation types what you said. LumeVoice also removes filler words, applies your self-corrections and formats lists.
How do you pay?Monthly, yearly, or once. LumeVoice offers all three: $14.99/mo, $79.99/yr, or $249 lifetime.
Any discounts?LumeVoice gives students 50% off and anyone who finds typing hard 50% off. See the accessibility discount.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which dictation app is best?

It depends on what you need. If audio must never leave your computer, pick a local tool such as Superwhisper, MacWhisper or VoiceInk. If you want the same app on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android with heavy cleanup of filler words and self-corrections, LumeVoice is built for that. If you need full hands-free control of your computer, look at Talon or your system's Voice Control.

Is LumeVoice cheaper than Wispr Flow?

On an annual plan, yes: LumeVoice Pro Annual is $79.99/year, while Wispr Flow Pro is $144 a year as of October 2026. LumeVoice also sells a one-time Lifetime license for $249, which Wispr Flow doesn't offer.

Does LumeVoice work offline?

No. LumeVoice processes speech in the cloud and needs an internet connection. Audio isn't stored after processing and nothing you say is used to train models, but if you need offline dictation, a local app such as Superwhisper, MacWhisper or VoiceInk is the better fit.

How do you keep these comparisons fair?

We check each competitor's own website, pricing page and help docs before publishing, date every price, and list the things the other app does better. If you spot something out of date, email hello@lumevoice.com and we'll fix it.
