Monologue and Wispr Flow both turn rough speech into polished text in whatever app you're using, and their Pro plans cost exactly the same: $15 a month, or $144 a year. So the choice comes down to where you work and what else you want. Monologue, from Every, stays on Apple devices and adds voice notes, bot-free meeting notes and local transcription on Apple silicon Macs. Wispr Flow covers Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android, keeps a free plan and has the security paperwork companies ask for.
We make LumeVoice, a third dictation app, so read this with that in mind; it gets one short section at the end. We haven't used Monologue or Wispr Flow ourselves. The facts below come from each company's website, documentation, pricing page and store listing, checked on October 20, 2026. Monologue publishes its own comparison with Wispr Flow; we've used it only for what Monologue says about itself.

Price: the same $15, different extras#
Monologue has one paid plan, Pro: $15 a month, or $144 a year in one payment (pricing). It unlocks unlimited dictation, unlimited recorded notes and bot-free meeting notes on all your Apple devices, after a free trial of 1,000 dictation words and 10 recorded notes. Pro is also included with a subscription to Every, the company that makes Monologue. Inside the iPhone app the amounts differ slightly: $14.99 a month, and from $143.99 a year, as of October 20, 2026 (App Store). There's no published team price and no student discount, and its terms rule out refunds of past payments (terms).
Wispr Flow Pro is $15 per user per month, or $12 a month billed annually ($144 a year) (pricing). The free plan doesn't expire: 2,000 words a week on Mac and Windows and limited weekly use on iPhone and Android, which Wispr's help center currently puts at 750 words a week on iPhone and 1,500 on Android. Students new to Pro get 3 months free with a .edu email, then 50% off: $6 a month, billed annually (students). Pro also works for small teams with no seat minimum, and Growth, at $18 per user per month billed annually ($23 month to month), adds single sign-on, admin controls and HIPAA with a signed BAA.

On list price it's a tie, and neither sells a one-time license. Wispr Flow comes out ahead if you dictate lightly enough for its free plan or qualify for the student offer; Monologue does if you already pay for Every. More in our Wispr Flow pricing guide.
Platforms#
Monologue has native apps for Mac, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch (platform availability). On a Mac you hold the right-side Option key to talk, or set a separate hands-free shortcut (shortcuts). On iPhone you dictate through the Monologue keyboard (it needs Full Access), Apple Shortcuts or the Action Button, and the Watch app records voice notes that sync to your other devices. The iPhone and iPad app needs iOS 17.6 or later, and the Watch app watchOS 10.6. Monologue says it doesn't offer Windows or Android apps and hasn't announced a date.
Wispr Flow runs on Mac, with separate downloads for Apple silicon and Intel, on Windows, as a keyboard on iPhone, and on Android (downloads). Its Notetaker works on Mac and Windows only. There's no Linux app.
If any part of your day happens on Windows or Android, Wispr Flow covers it and Monologue doesn't. If you live on Apple devices and want something on your wrist, only Monologue has a Watch app.
Privacy and offline use#
Monologue sends your audio and relevant context to its services for processing, in its default remote mode and on iPhone and iPad (permissions and privacy). It says it doesn't save dictation audio or transcripts on its servers and that its AI providers process dictation with zero data retention; saved Voice Notes are stored so they can sync. You can choose whether to share dictation transcripts to help improve its dictation. On an Apple silicon Mac, a downloadable local model keeps speech recognition on your computer, so you can dictate offline, though smart formatting needs a connection.
Wispr Flow says transcription always occurs in the cloud (data controls). In its Data and Privacy settings you choose whether your audio, transcripts and edits can be used to improve its models, and a separate setting controls whether your dictation data is stored on Wispr's servers. Wispr says it has zero data retention agreements with its AI providers and encrypts data in transit and at rest. It's SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certified and offers HIPAA-ready dictation under a signed BAA.
The upshot: for dictating on a plane, or anywhere without a connection, Monologue on an Apple silicon Mac is the only one of the two that works. For a company that needs audits and a BAA, Wispr Flow has the paperwork; Monologue's own comparison page lists none. Our guide to dictation for legal and medical work covers what to check, and does Wispr Flow work offline? goes deeper on the offline question.
Cleanup, modes and notes#
Cleanup. Both go well beyond plain transcription. Monologue removes filler words and false starts, keeps the final version when you change course mid-sentence, and adjusts its formatting to the app you're in, with separate handling for code, email and chat. Its Blazing Fast mode skips that cleanup when speed matters more (modes and instructions). Wispr Flow removes filler words, fixes grammar and uses the app you're in to set the tone, such as more formal in email.
Modes and instructions. Monologue has modes for chatting, email, notes and coding, each with its own instructions, plus global dictation instructions. Custom modes can switch on in the Mac apps or websites you choose, and its coding mode uses context from your code to get file names and technical terms right.
Editing by voice. Wispr Flow's Command Mode edits highlighted text by voice on Mac and Windows, on Pro.
Dictionary. Monologue's dictionary is something you fill in yourself (it doesn't learn from your edits), syncs across Apple devices, and can import lists from Wispr Flow, Aqua Voice, Superwhisper and Willow Voice. Wispr Flow adds a corrected spelling to your dictionary automatically and has snippets for text you repeat.
Notes and meetings. Monologue's Voice Notes come with transcripts, summaries, speaker separation and tags, sync to a web app, and can be read by AI agents through MCP, the Notes API or a command-line tool (MCP and API). On a Mac it records meetings without a bot, from your microphone plus your Mac's system audio once you grant Screen Recording permission. Wispr Flow's Notetaker records meetings on Mac and Windows; it's in every plan, limited on Free.
Models and languages. Monologue launched its own dictation model, mono-1, in September 2026. Both list 100+ languages.
Teams and companies#
Wispr Flow is built to be bought by companies. Pro works for small teams with no seat minimum, Growth adds single sign-on (SAML), org-wide HIPAA enforcement with a signed BAA and admin controls, and Enterprise adds user provisioning (SCIM), audit logs and managed deployment.
Monologue has a Team plan in which members get Pro through their organization and an admin manages billing, while personal settings stay with each user. It doesn't publish a team price, and its Enterprise API for approved organizations is in private beta.

- Light use without paying: Wispr Flow's free plan.
- Students: Wispr Flow (3 months free, then half price).

Where LumeVoice fits#
LumeVoice is our product, so read this as the maker's view. In reach it's closer to Wispr Flow than to Monologue: it's cloud-based, needs an internet connection, and runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and Android with one plan. It types clean text into whatever app has your cursor, with filler words removed, self-corrections applied and spoken lists formatted. It costs $14.99/mo, $79.99/yr, or $249 lifetime, and every new account gets 3,000 free words, no card required (pricing).
- Choose it over both if you'd rather pay once ($249) or pay less per year ($79.99/year against $144).
- Choose Monologue instead if you want voice notes, meeting notes, an Apple Watch app or dictation without internet on a Mac.
- Choose Wispr Flow instead if you want a free plan to keep, Command Mode, a meeting Notetaker on Windows, or SSO and a BAA. Our LumeVoice vs Monologue page and LumeVoice vs Wispr Flow have the details.
Try LumeVoice on Your Own Words
Hold a key, talk, and LumeVoice types the finished text where your cursor is, on Mac, Windows, iPhone or Android. Your audio isn't stored after processing, your history stays on your device, and nothing you say is used to train a model. It needs an internet connection.
